Check out his latest mix "Electro Gold" : Listen
EV: What music did you listen to growing up?
R: I listened a lot of Bob Marley, Depeche Mode, Led Zepplin, The Doors, The Cure, New Order, AC/DC. I started working at a surf shop when I was 9 years old and they would only play reggae, rock, metal, and alternative.
EV: When were you first introduced to the electronic music scene?
R: 15 years old, I snuck out of my house where was living at the time I and went to a rave.
EV: Specifically, what artists/bands influence your style?
R: It's hard to say that a particular artist or band has really influenced my style because there are so many out there I respect and look up to. I do feel there's a time and place for all music. I've been going to rock concerts and electronic music parties for more then 12 years now. All the concerts, parties, clubs, etc I feel have influenced my style. Spend a week in Miami during WMC or a weekend at Coachella, and you'll know exactly what I mean.
EV: At what time did you feel that deejaying was something you wanted to do full time?
R: From age 15 - the first time I walked into a rave and saw the dj making the crowd jump and scream
EV: How did you land your first performance?
R: I went to an after party at my friends house in San Diego, Ca where the DJ from the yacht party we were at the night before was spinning. He had been playing for hours nonstop and needed a break. I had asked him if I could play, and sure enough he let me. From the first track I spun up until the last; everyone was dancing, smiling, and giving me great compliments. A week after I received a phone call asking if I wanted to dj a 4th of July Yacht party. It was at that yacht party on the 4th of July in San Diego that I landed my First Performance.
EV: What experiences do you feel pushed you to enhance your career?
R: Getting more and more people to smile, dance, and sing when I play my music. This connection with a complete stranger makes me want to do it time and time again.
EV: To date what has been your favorite gig?
R: It's hard to nail it down to just one. I have 3 moments within the past year that have been playing over and over in my mind. 1.) 4th of July yacht party 2.) My closing set at Spin after Bad Boy Bill 3.) My closing set at Wavehouse after JJ Flores. These 3 events were so good words don't do them justice
EV: What can we expect to see from you in 2009?
R: 2009 is exciting an exciting year for me as I Just became an Eventvibe DJ and I have some tracks I produced and remixed that are ready for release.
