One of the West Coast's unsurpassed transformational festival, Symbiosis Gathering, returns for its 11th year to the five-nubbed, 2900-acre peninsula also known as the Woodward Reservoir. Two hours east of San Francisco, thousands will gather to create and immerse themselves in the Music, Yoga, Workshops, Art installations, Performances from Fire to Comedy to Theater, and Visual Arts that Symbiosis has to offer.
This year's versatile lineup plays host to many genre-defying artists on multiple stages including Swimbiosis, a stage surrounded by water. That's right, Symbiosis gathering boasts open swimming all weekend, which categorizes your entire festival experience with the ability to beat the heat. Last year's water world showcased several floating art boats and structures, truly placing the gathering in its own realm. So don't be surprised if you see a floating DeLorean blasting off into the sunset (one of last year's notorious art boats) or oodles of people floating around in their bikinis until sundown!
Some of the highlights of the lineup include Gramatik, Santigold, TA-KU, Claude vonstroke, Beats Antique, The Gaslamp Killer, OTT & the All Seeing I, Shiba San, RL Grime, Random Rab, The Desert Hearts Crew, and many more:
Besides the wide range of musical styles, from psy-trance to G-house to live bands and unique picks, Symbiosis is special because it features plenty of non-musical performances and entertainment as well. Hilarious renditions of game shows and skits were some of the highlights of our experience last year when we wanted a break from the music, and it doesn't stop with the performers - the people that attend are an aspect of the participatory nature as well. Fire breathers, fan flow artists, circus style dancers and actors are just a few memories of the crowd at Symbiosis, offering a surprisingly different quality to this gathering.
Whether or not you have attended Symbiosis Gathering before, it won't take long to realize that this music, art, and conscious lifestyle event has a persistent message about community. You will feel the collaborative effort by everyone involved with the production of the event as soon as you arrive. The carefree attitude is refreshingly prevalent in this NorCal reservoir, a nice change in vibes from our Southern California culture. Workshop education focuses on knowledge of our community and earth rather than conventional teachings.
As Fall approaches, so does the never ending circuit of West Coast transformational festivals. This will be the gathering's last year on the Woodward Reservoir according to Symbiosis organizers - but it will be the best one yet! We can't wait to see what Symbiosis has in store for us this year.
