Julius O'Riordan, or as he is known in the Dance Music Industry, Judge Jules, is one of THE pioneers in the explosion of the popularity of Dance Music worldwide.
Judge Jules began DJing professionally back in 1987. He was quickly hired by the then-pirate radio station Kiss FM. He has been on Radio 1 since October 1997. When he first arrived, his show went out on Saturday evenings, ahead of Danny Rampling's show. In 2003, after the departure of Seb Fontaine from the station, his show was moved ahead of Tim Westwoods's show. Jules show was widely advertised as "The Weekend Warm-Up". One of the most popular Dance Music radio shows in the history of the indusrty. The show kept this slot until September 2007. During those four years, he played a mixture and more commercial and underground tracks. The first hour was generally taken up by House Music and the second hour featured Trance Music, although if they were broadcasting the show outside the studio, the music might vary.
As Jules began playing in 1987, he launched a career that has easily notched up hundreds of thousands of miles, millions of spins of the decks and countless gigs in far-flung destinations, as well as the odd dirty warehouse thrown in for good measure. With a list of awards that would make the American Olympic team blush, Jules has earned his place amongst the DJ aristocracy. Awards aside, there is no doubt that Jules remains one of the most popular figures in dance music, both home and abroad.
Jules' DJ sets are the epitome of what DJing is about - passion, amazing tunes and a pair of hands capable of the most nimble of mixing.
Rarely out of DJ Mag's top 10 in the annual Top 100 DJs poll, Jules has won such accolades as - "Best DJ" (Muzik Awards), No.1 DJ (Mixmag reader's poll), "Best International DJ" (Dancestar), and "Best Radio DJ" at the Smirnoff Dancestars.
