The man behind URSULA 1000 is none other than the mild mannered,
multi-instrumentalist Alex Gimeno. Based in New York City, Alex's style
evolved and transitioned from the sophisticated & hip background
score provided by his father, a renowned member of the 50's Latin
orchestra, Los Chavales De Espana, to the heady rock, punk, disco, funk
and electronic dance music of his generation. Alex smoothly moves back
and forth between musical styles from the glamorous Jet Set era to
frenetic electronica. He cannot be boxed in, categorized or labeled,
his music is a multi-leveled eclectic blend of styles and genres.
Finding a label to house this eclecticism could be tricky. Lo and
behold came the smart and highly respected Eighteenth Street Lounge
Music label, operated by Washington DCs Thievery Corporation.
THE NOW SOUND OF URSULA 1000, his debut album, was released in 1999 to
critical acclaim making it on many top ten dance album charts. Joining
the ranks of the international club pop & lounge-core elite, some
have called URSULA 1000 the U.S. ambassador to this tantalizing sound!
His second release ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO GO, compiled and mixed from a
live session, featured 18 international cuts of the finest in 60’s
infused big beat-o-ramas and latin tinged percussive workouts!
Keeping up with the jetsetting image, he travels the globe dj-ing his
transcontinental grooves at discothèques worldwide like the prestigious
Fabric in London to thousands of screaming people at festivals like
Glastonbury, Good Vibrations, Shambhala and Big Chill. He's also done
shows for fashionistas like Prada, Issey Miyake, Hugo Boss, Miss Sixty,
H&M, Diesel and Christian Dior. When in New York you can also catch
him at his monthly residency at the swank APT.
He’s always busy on the remix front adding his flair to tracks as
diverse as Quincy Jones, Felix da Housecat, The Faint, Fort Knox Five,
Nicola Conte and Pierre Henry, to name a few. He has been honored to do
theme song remixes for shows such as Sesame Street, Yo Gabba Gabba, The
Incredibles, and The Powerpuff Girls. Original Ursula 1000 tracks have
also been played on a number of hit shows like Sex and the City,
Entourage, Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy and used in movies
like The Pink Panther, Blue Crush and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
Featuring collaborations with Dr.Luke (songwriter to the stars!) and
Brother Cleve (of loungesters Combustible Edison), 2002 saw KINDA'
KINKY taking the Now Sound to a bigger and badder place where the
leisure class meets the beatfreak upstarts on the dancefloor for a
showdown! Cheeky Hammond organ breaks, spy caper intrigue, boogaloo
shingalings, samba disco, a pinch of electro and bongos bongos bongos!

2004 unveiled the mix cd URSADELICA in which Alex returns with his
signature eclectic style mixing tracks from around the world that take
you from jazzy breaks, mod freakbeats, psychedelic soul shakers and
bouncy electric disco stompers!
Alex third studio album is entitled, HERE COMES TOMORROW, where a mind
meld happens of jazz, electro, latin, swing, ska, bossa nova, hip hop,
psychedelia and glam rock. Featuring guests such as LOS AMIGOS
INVISIBLES, CRISTINA (of ZE RECORDS fame), FEDERICO AUBELE, members of
GENTLE PEOPLE, QYPTHONE, CABARET NOIR, TOWER OF POWER, MISTY ROSES and
so much more!
Billboard claimed “not a dull moment to be found here” for 2008’s
UNDRESSED, a collection of remixes done for the HERE COMES TOMORROW
album. Here we have Deekline & Ed Solo, Moston & Malente, Fort
Knox Five, Jstar, Product.01, Ladytron and other amazing producers
adding their touch. DJ magazine said it best: “kick ass”.
Currently locked up in his mad laboratory, Alex is conjuring up the next Ursula 1000 adventure. Expect some magick in 2009!
