PLANET B LAUNCHES COCAINE COWBOYS MUSIC VIDEO!

PLANET B- San Francisco’s Electronic Rock duo- unleashes their debut EP, “Cocaine Cowboys” (available NOW on Amazon & I-tunes!) and launches the 1st single, the rock/dance anthem, “Cocaine Cowboys”, along with a controversial new video that is sure to get even the extremists talking!  Although Planet B have been around for several years now, the new EP & single is their 1st real debut & release and showcases their amazing musical feast of styles.  The single blends heavy guitar riffs with beautiful dark and moody synths and a pounding drumbeat that will keep the rockers & Hip Hoppers heads bobbing and the club revelers grooving with a catchy chorus that is sure to be a club & arena favorite very soon!  Other songs on the EP include the vampire epic, “The Perfect Victim”, “Slipping Away” a suicide plea, the adrenaline rush, “Crash”, “Eternity” a post 911 world & the intergalactic war song “Battlezone”.

The single & video were inspired by the highly successful and very controversial Cocaine Cowboys Documentary, which profiled the life of the 1980’s Miami drug trafficker John Roberts.  The music video showcases not only the talents & sounds of Planet B, which is made up of Sason Bishope Parry & Shaun Malice Bivens, but also hardcore clips of the Cocaine Cowboys documentary.  The video was shot in San Francisco at the infamous Studio after-hours club and was directed by San Francisco’s Crash, Studio After-hours & Club V Night Club owner, Rick Haynes and also features some of San Francisco’s elite night revelers and hipsters.  Rick Haynes is also well known for directing one of the 1st indie videos released by superstar rock act, Incubus.  The life story of John Roberts is now being slated for a new movie, directed by Peter Berg and set to star, Mark Wahlberg, as John Roberts and co-stars Leonardo Dicrapio as his plane flying accomplice.  The Cocaine Cowboys Documentary has also been picked up by blockbuster filmmaking  producers Michael Bey and Jerry Bruckheimer and is being made into a new HBO crime drama series, in the footsteps of the Sopranos, and due to air this summer!

PLANET B has been building a buzz for the past decade now, pushing their unique genre bending sound and their debut EP is an amazing adrenalin ride that pushes the envelope of styles, by bridging the gap between many genres with ease and style that is unique to their own sound.  The Duo, Sason Bishope Parry & Shaun Malice Bivens, came together in 2000, combining their musical styles into an intergalactic fusion that could only be described as innovative and fresh with a sound that crosses over to the masses.  Welcome to PLANET B…

We recently had a chance to speak with Planet B lead singer and songwriter Sason Bishope Parry about his upcoming bands new release, music and life.

So how have you been?
Been doing great, working on a lot of music projects & excited about the new Planet B release!  Its been a long time coming!

Look like this is going to be a busy year for you and Planet B?
Yeah, things are starting to heat up and the new single is hot! We're just going to go with the flow and see what happens!

What other bands and/or shows inspired you (and Shaun aka Malice) to start Planet
B? When?
Shaun & I grew up together in the same circle of friends and music. We started Planet B in 1999.  I was working on a solo project at the time and Shaun was working on some new music.  That weekend one of my festivals, Cyberfest was happening at Santa Clara Fairgrounds and I was performing w/ Nizam (a electronic rock group) and Shaun came through and played guitar w/ us.  The next week, we went into the studio, vibed and Planet B was formed. We've always been a little ahead of the curve musically and now it seems like electro rock and mash up music is everywhere.

Who are the key members of Planet B?
Me (Sason Bishope Parry) and Shaun Malice Bivens

Where are you located?
Planet B of course!  Why you coming to visit?

What other musicians have performed in or with Planet B?
All the songs are written by Shaun and I, but when we play live, we sometimes bring out other players.  Scott Overly, William Woodley, Tony Providence, Mark “Spider” Web and a few other amazing musicians jam w/ us.  the live show is pure energy w/ crazy visuals.

Tell us about your music?
The music is innovative and mixes both our styles, its a big mix of styles w/ heavy Electronica/electro influences, Rock & Hip Hop.  We both love many different styles of music and we didn't want to get pigeon holed.  One minute you could be listening to us and might sound like Depeche, next minute NIN, next minute Tupac or Black Sabbath, musical rollercoaster!

Cocaine Cowboys is the name of your new EP?  Tell us about that and how it came
About?
We had just finished the new music for PB and I was in Mexico for a show and hangin out of w/ a label partner of mine Pedro Moctezuma and he showed me the documentary.  At the time, I never heard of it. I was back in Miami 2 months later and got introduced to John Roberts, who's life is portrayed in the 1st Cocaine Cowboys documentary and is now reborn, and his life story is crazy and interesting.  I ended up at a studio in Hollywood, Florida that night, where John introduced me to Akon and T-Pain and told me about that Peter Berg was making a feature film about his life story and Mark Wahlberg is playin him and Leo DiCaprio might be onboard to play his accomplice.  I called Shaun and told him I had an idea for a new tune, "Cocaine Cowboys", and when I got back to SF he already had an idea for the music and we went in studio and finished the song.  When we were done, we new we had a dance/rock anthem!  We decided to shoot a video w/ director Rick Haynes, at his underground after-hours club, Studio.  I played the song and video for another buddy of mine in Miami, who loved it and he and my DJ buddy Tom Laroc, introduced me to the producers and creators of the Cocaine Cowboys doc series, Alfred Spellman.  Long story short and after a ton of coincidences (small world), Cocaine Cowboys, the Doc just got signed by blockbuster film producers, Michael Bey and Jerry Bruckheimer and is being made into a new crime drama series, like the Sopranos, that will air this summer on HBO!  We are hoping to get the single on one of these multiple trains, but for now, it’s our new single for our upcoming EP and it drops this month w/ the video!

Is this your 1st EP release?
Yes, this is our official debut and were pushing it ourselves digitally and some physical!

Are you planning on releasing an album?
Yeah our album is done and we have enough songs for 2 albums!  The EP is the right way to go for now and were looking for the right situation to drop the album.  The album is sic!!  and unlike anything out there!

Do you do drugs?  Does the song, cocaine cowboys glorify drug use?
No, I don’t do drugs and either does Shaun.  The song tells a story about John Roberts and the darksides of cocaine, were not glorifying drug use.  It’s a fun song though and one that people can dance and party too!

Where did you shoot the Cocaine Cowboys video?
Studio afterhours in San Francisco.  One of the hot underground clubs in SF and we wanted a gritty spot that wasn’t too pretty.  Lot of SF clubbers and promoters came through for the shoot, it was a good time!  We have a censored and a uncensored version and we plan on releasing both!  The uncensored version will get banned, so you got to see it quickly!  Both will be available w/ the EP as well!

Do you have any other videos coming out?
Yeah we have our Live @ Ultra Music Festival video coming out this month as well!  We shot us playing live a few years ago at Ultra- Miami on main stage!  DJ Diamond was on the decks and we decided to do one song for the live video, “You Come Over Me” is the track!  We also shot another video in SF at Temple Nightclub, for song, “End Of the World”.  I produced it w/ Director Ian Levessiur and Its about a futuristic club in the year 3000 and it’s the End Of The World.  We plan on releasing that w/ our upcoming album, when the right situation is in place!  It’s an amazing video, timeless and when you see it, it will turn heads.  Shaun’s rap flow on that song is amazing!

I heard you just played Mexico City, how was that?  Where else have you  played?
Yeah, we played the Expo Rock Show at the World Trade Center.  It was a great show and the Latin audience is amazing.  Tommy Lee/DJ Aero and Dave Navarro and Skribble also played w/ us and about 100 other artists.

Where can we see Planet B live in the coming months?
We're planning on doing a club tour to promote the single and EP and also hit some festivals this summer!

Where can we find out more info about Planet B?
You can buy the EP or single on Itunes.  You can find us at myspace.com/planetb and our new website, www.planetbmusic.com will be launching soon.  Cocaine cowboys video will be on youtube and also on our myspace page!

What do you envision for the future of music?
More creativity and outlets for music!  CD’s are almost obsolete, so digital is the way to go and lots of live shows.  A lot more festivals will pop up as well- I think fans and music lovers want more for their money, so you have to push the envelope!

Do you think that the state of the economy is going to effect the business?
Yeah, a little, but again, I think it just makes you become more creative and work harder!

What else do you have happening?
I’m working on a solo project, Bishope, have several new festival projects in the works, gearing up for Ultra in Miami this month, a new digital distribution retail platformI’m launching soon and a ton of other things!  I’m always creating- but my main focus right now is having Planet B heard by the masses!  In between the musical chaos, I still practice yoga and give blessings!

Planet B is song writer, lead singer, Sason Bishope Parry & producer, rapper, Shaun Malice Bivens, both raised in the SF Bay Area and friends since their teens. They both grew up listening to different styles of music and came together in 1999 when Planet B was immediately formed bringing together both of their unique styles and life experiences. The “B” comes from balance and defines the fusion of hard and soft melodies, music & lyrics. Every song is a intergalactic journey and new experience in the lives of Planet B. “We grew up listening to so many different styles of music that we wanted to have that show through in our musical creations. We don’t sugarcoat the realities, because sometimes the Planet is a big party and other times its not the happiest place. I'm Persian, born in Tehran and came to Berkeley, Cali at an early age and have had the opportunity to see and experience many cultures and musical styles. Lyrics are just as important as the music and probably more important- because that’s where you understand the message and the story. Planet B has very profound messages and there are many meanings if you listen close,” says Sason.

Both members are exact alter egos and feed upon each others creativity and vibes like ying and yang. “We didn’t want to be pigeon holed into any one particular music genre, because we like so many different styles of music, that we wanted to be able to take each song in a different direction, yet still have it be Planet B’s own sound.” Says, Shaun.

Planet B’s songs are extremely visual and many are being pitched for soundtracks to movies. They have finished up the final touches to their new album, entitled “Twist Your Fate”, which they are shooting to put out sometime in '09, following their upcoming Cocaine Cowboys EP release slated for March '09 release. PB also produced, performed and shot their video, The End Of The World" which will debut in Fall of 2009. The duo will be releasing 2 videos in March- 1 is for single, " Cocaine Cowboys" (you can preview on profile) and the other is a live video shot in Miami at the Ultra Music Festival, both will be featured online in March '09 and Cocaine Cowboys will be the 1st single released everywhere. Planet B's new website: www.planetbmusic.com will be launching soon! (still under construction, but soon will have information about upcoming musical releases, shows, sample videos, MP3’s and so much more)!
