The Show is one of the Bay Area's best monthly underground events, providing you with those dirty, nasty, funky beats that keep you on the dance floor all night. Every third Sunday, we showcase the heroes of the underground scene that bring us the newest sounds. In the evening, we showcase breakbeats, electro, hip hop hybrids, hyphy, glitch, acid bass, and dubstep. In the mornings we feature house, tech house and progressive house beats.
This month, The Show turns ONE and we celebrate our anniversary with our signature sound featuring the best of SF breaks with a HUGE line-up of SF all-star talent that have made our year super funky! Gracing the decks are your girlfriend's favorite DJ Smoove, DJ Icon of Sister SF, Opulent Temple and the Breakbeat Booty parties, Space Cowboy's own Mancub, Murphstar of the famed Seismic parties, Laird of everything pimp and DJ Shissla from House of Lotus! At 6AM, the Early Show takes over for its morning mixture of tribal, progressive and funkin' house to ease you through the end of your weekend. Early Show residents Ben Seagren and Dean Samaras are joined by some very, very special guests!
SMOOVE (Funketronic, Newsbreakz) Rising out of the 90's Drum 'n Bass scene in San Francisco, Smoove quickly became a fixture on the underground Breakz circuit in 2001 DJ'ing with Space Cowboys and their mighty Unimog. These days his signature power-funk Breakz sound can be heard every weekend all over San Francisco's night life, from underground warehouse parties to his residencies at The End Up, 1015 and Mighty. All his hard work in the night club trenches has earned him membership in nitevibe.com's DJ Dream Team three years in a row and was voted Best DJ 2008 by the readers of the S.F. Bay Guardian in their annual "Best of the Bay" issue. Taking his sound to the airwaves, Smoove has been featured on XM Satellite Radio's Thump Funk show (XM 80) as well as Below Zero on Energy 92.7 and was a frequent guest on Future Breaks on KUSF. In 2004 he, along with Donna Matrix, started publishing the underground magazine NewsBreakz and more recently is set to launch NBz 2.0 the on-line version in late 2008. Simply put, Smoove is one of the quintessential tastemakers in the San Francisco Breakz scene today and can always be relied on to bring a big party fun sound that makes the crowd go giddy on the dance floor. And he's also your girlfriend's favorite DJ.
DJ ICON (Breakbeat Booty, Sister SF, Temple, myspace.com/djicon) Without doubt, DJ ICON has become a permanent fixture in the U.S. dance music industry. With a career spanning more than a decade, she has captivated audiences the world over with her energetic performances, magnetic stage presence, and massive dancefloor-moving blend of Nu-School Breaks, Tech Funk and Electro House; and has become recognized as one of the leading ladies of Breakbeat.Starting in 1996, ICON diligently rose through the ranks of the San Francisco underground at a time when female DJs and promoters were few. In just a few years, her skills had already landed her numerous residencies in San Francisco and bookings throughout the United States and far beyond. In the time since, ICON has also gained success in radio and television in addition to rocking dancefloors worldwide. She is ranked in Shejay's "Top 100 Female DJs" and was recently voted as one of San Francisco's top ten DJs in the 2008 Nitevibe "Top 10 DJ Dreamteam" Poll.Over the last decade, ICON has performed in countless cities throughout North America and Europe and has held residencies at world famous clubs such as Limelight in New York City as well as San Francisco's 1015 Folsom, The End-Up and Temple. LAIRD (Djlaird.com) is a classically trained pianist of a dozen years and modern day bohemian. He plays for countless special events and nightclubs across the United States and throughout Europe, from Paris to Burning Man to Coachella, the music cruise "Xingolati" to Cirque de Soleil. He is an integral part of Burning Man's "Decompression" and "Flambe Lounge" events in San Francisco and numberous camps at Burning Man, including LUSH and the Boombox. From sunrise,desert funk to lowdown dirty breaks, an evening with Laird just fun.
SHISSLA (House of Lotus) has been spinning his unique mix of funky breaks and house in SF and abroad for over 9 years, during that time, he's played with some of the biggest names in breaks including Adam Freeland, Lee Coombs, the Drumattic Twin and Freq Nasty among others. Part the House of Lotus Burning Man camp, Shissla has also spent time throwing down with his friends the SpaceCowboys and DeepEnd. In addition to clubbing, Shissla has played for SF art institutions including the SF MOMA, DeYoung museum, The Legion of Honor and pARTicipate, as well as organizations like MTV, Guess, Puma, TedBaker and even the SF Giants.
MANCUB (Space Cowboys) Mancub is synonymous with Space Cowboys. He's been rockin' the SF underground breaks scene for so long that he needs no bio, no website and he doesn't even age. He looks as if he froze in time when he started hittin' the decks and killin’ dancefloors everywhere!
MURPHSTAR (Seismic) Murpshstar's Mighty Breaks parties are a staple in the breaks scene. He brings out breaks talent of "seismic" proportions. His parties continually crush the ears of partygoers in San Francisco. Murph is a funky breaks machine! Murph is a funky breaks machine!
