Macy's Passport presents Glamorama San Francisco! With haute fashion, hot music and even hotter celebrities Glamorama is sure to be the charity benefit event of the fall fashion season. Join us at the Orpheum Theatre for exciting designer and guest appearances, plus performances by Bruno Mars and Far East Movement. 100% of ticket sales proceeds will benefit the AIDS Emergency Fund, Project Open Hand & the Glide Foundation—organizations dedicated to helping San Francisco residents infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS. Check out the official GlamBook for the most up to date info on events, talent, partners and more! It's better if you don't understand; just listen and have a good time. That's the response Bruno Mars will give you with a smile when asked to describe his sound and music. Born to a musical family in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mars was practically raised on the stage. His father, a Latin percussionist from Brooklyn, organized a Vegas-style revue that featured the entire family, including his mother, a talented vocalist. "My dad put me on stage and I remember singing an Elvis song and that was it. Ever since that moment, I've been addicted." It's better if you don't understand; just listen and have a good time. "My dad put me on stage and I remember singing an Elvis song and that was it. Ever since that moment, I've been addicted."
After high school, Mars left Hawaii for Los Angeles with dreams of launching his career as a performer. Once there, he founded The Smeezingtons, a songwriting/production team, with Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine. The trio was responsible for crafting such hits as Flo Rida's "Right Round", Brandy's "Long Distance" and K'Naan's "Waving Flags", which was the theme song for the 2010 World Cup.
After playing a behind-the-scenes role, Mars burst onto the charts with "Nothin' on You", "Grenade" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" and hasn't looked back since. Mars says the only place he would rather be than in the recording studio, is with his band on stage - where he grew up. "I think people are really going to gravitate towards the live show. We turn it into a party." READ MORE With music that bridges the gap between underground party records, mainstream hip-hop and pop, Far East Movement takes elements of hip-hop, electro, alternative and dance to create an original sound and lifestyle they refer to as 'Free Wired'. Featuring the musical talents of Kev Nish, Prohgress, J-Splif and DJ Virman, who grew up together in downtown Los Angeles, Far East Movement has brought the LA club scene to the world with international tours, national song placements for television and film and a #1 hit song, "Girls On The Dance Floor," all before dropping their debut album, Free Wired.
