For the Future

Please join the San Francisco House Music Community in its fifth annual benefit for children affected by AIDS in Africa.  FOR THE FUTURE draws from the major dj crews in the city, Sunset/PacificSound, Green Gorilla, Forward SF, Stompy, [Kontrol], Stap[e, Om Records, and DirtyBird to bring together an incredible group of 15 dj’s. This 14-hour event will share the music, spread the word, garner hope, and raise funds for the completion of NextAid’s environmental community center in a poverty and AIDS stricken town in South Africa, as well as, help fund the future construction of a “green” workshop and multipurpose building for a youth-run business providing positive opportunities in a Kenyan slum.  The “mega-benefit” will take place on Sunday, July 26th at Café Cocomo, 650 Indiana Street in San Francisco from noon to 2 am. Cover charges are $10 b4 3p, $15 after. $10 discount RSVP at www.going.com/nextaid. Arrive before 3PM for drink specials and to receive raffle ticket for awesome prizes.  Venue phone number: 415-824-6910. Contact info@nextaid.org for more information.

This year we are bringing SF old-skool legends: Mark E. Quark and Gavin Hardkiss plus local favorites ADM, Adnan, Alona, Anthony Mansfield, Christian Mora, Dj D.R.E, DJ OZ, Eric Sharp, Fil Latorre, Galen, Halo, J Boogie, Nikola, Qzen, Solar, and Tasho  Promotional partners include Nitevibe, Fusicology, YBR Promotions, the MML, and Going.

The party has a profound history.  In 2002, a core group of friends brought together 30 artists to raise funds for a treasured member of the community, Wert Terry, who was tragically lost to cancer.  The historic event was called For The Love and no one will ever forget this moving day. In his memory, the San Francisco House Music community came together again in 2004 for the kids. NextAid built a performance space at the NextAid/YWAV Community Center in Wert’s memory from funds raised at the three For the Kids events.

Now in its fifth year, the benefit event will help complete construction at the community center in which “Wert Terry Music and Performance Center” is at the heart of and open a new chapter of change For the Future.  The Youth With A Vision Community Center, which also includes a micro-business facility, an energy efficient outdoor kitchen, a soccer field, organic gardens, a library and offices, will serve as a beacon of hope for the hundreds it serve, as well as, provide a model for future sustainable projects in Africa.  Funds will also be allocated to NextAid’s next project, the Kawangware Street Children and Youth Project, a youth group consisting of former street kids from the slums of Nairobi who have organized their own business of producing gift bags and products for the safari tourism industry.  Profits enable the participants to generate income for themselves and to take care of the community's orphaned or vulnerable children while providing a productive and positive environment for the youth.  Groundbreaking on an eco-friendly workshop and multipurpose facility is schedule for coming months.
