DIRTY started playing the guitar at a young age, but found himself
tweaking the amp knobs and wanking the whammy bar more than studying
for his theory exams. Proving to be more than just a knob fetish,
DIRTY’s interest led him in to a full-fledged career in sound
engineering by age 19.
Based in San Francisco, DJ/Producer/Sound Designer, "DIRTYHERTZ", is a
musician in every sense of the word and shows no signs of slowing down.
He continues to make waves with his sought after productions, his
impressive sound design repertoire and his versatile DJ soundscapes.
Before every one claimed to be a computer musician, he was already
designing sounds for the most well-known synthesizer manufacturers in
the world: E-Mu’s Audity 2000, Proteus 2000, Xtreme Lead 1, E-4XT Ultra
(their bad ass heavyweight sampler) , Kurzweil’s K-2600 (their most
prestigious sampler) etc. In addition, he has composed music and
designed sounds for companies such as: Apple computer (iTunes,
Quicktime 5 and iMac), Big Fish Audio (one of the largest sample
distributors), Konami Video Games (Dance Dance Revolution), Sound Ideas
(largest f/x company in the world), Mtv and NASA to name a few.
DIRTY’s impressive slew of original productions and remixes
vary from his emotional downtempo compositions to warm musical, epic
and grimey dance beats. His records can be found in the boxes of some
of the biggest DJs in the world (Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Digweed,
Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Dave Seaman, Nick Warren, Hernan
Cattaneo, Matt Darey, Desyn Masiello and Doc Martin etc.). Having
numerous top 10 hits on record pools and charts, his extensive
discography reaches beyond releases on electronic labels to radio, web,
video games and film.
DIRTY’s DJ sets range from booty shakin house, bass rollin electro,
deep mental progressive to head banging trance which always include his
sought after white label remixes. His unique style and diverse sound
allows him to play from outdoor festivals like LoveFest, Burning Man to
club parties like Spundae to art and fashion shows on some of the
biggest dancefloors. His residencies include the world famous 1015 and
the legendary End Up with special guest appearances at Ruby Skye,
Mezzanine, Mighty and the Supperclub.
Such talent and versatility has enabled him to play alongside global
DJs such as Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Ferry Corsten, Christopher
Lawrence, Markus Schultz, Darude, Marco V, Infected Mushroom, John '00'
Fleming, Sean Tyas, D:fuse, Boy George and DJ Dan. He also DJed
Tiesto’s private birthday party in L.A. 2006 (how many djs ever get to
that?). Most recently, he was asked to play at the SF Museum of Modern
Art for the opening party Drawing Restraint 9, a film by Matthew Barney
starring Matthew and Bjork. In 2006 SF Weekly honored DIRTYHERTZ as one
of San Francisco’s MASTERMINDS (artists, innovators and trailblazers
who are changing the Bay Area through the arts). He was also voted top
10 DJ in San Francisco bay area by popular vote. With his natural
signature style of playing dirty, DIRTYHERTZ has been able to broaden
his appeal with regular appearances from cities in the US to countries
like Mexico and China.
